Neighborhood Cooperative Nursery School has been nurturing young children in Winchester for more than 40 years. In 1969, a group of parents dedicated to cooperative education founded NCNS, with one teacher and fifteen students meeting in the basement of the Second Congregational Church. In 1972, the school moved to its current home in the First Congregational Church, although NCNS has no religious affiliation.
From the beginning, NCNS enlisted parents to work alongside teachers in the classroom and a parent-led board of directors to run the school. Our core philosophy and commitment to small classes have remained the same, but our programs and facilities continually evolve based on the needs of our membership and our community.
Our cooperative always has attracted a creative and loyal staff, many of whom first came to NCNS as parents. We honor the contributions of two long-serving educators by awarding scholarships in their names.
